2019 Ministry of Acolyte

Ten men were instituted into the Ministry of Acolyte at Saint Vincent Seminary on October 9 by Most Rev. Edward C. Malesic, Bishop of the Diocese of Greensburg. They are from the dioceses of Amparo, Brazil; Covington, Kentucky; Erie and Pittsburgh, as well as from Saint Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe. The acolyte is instituted for service at the altar and to assist the priest and deacon.

DIOCESE OF AMPARO, BRAZIL

John Torres of Pedreira, Brazil is a 2001 graduate of Professor Clodoveu Barbosa High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas in 2017. His parents are Antonio Torres Farias and Lucia Galisa Torres.

DIOCESE OF COVINGTON

John D. Baumann of Walton, Kentucky, is a 2011 graduate of Saint Henry District High School, Erlanger, Kentucky and studied philosophy at Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus. He is the son of David and Julia Baumann of Walton.

Alexander J. Gedney of Florence, Kentucky, is the son of John and Taryn Gedney of Florence. He is a 2010 graduate of Saint Henry District High School, Erlanger, Kentucky. He earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Cincinnatti in 2015.

DIOCESE OF ERIE

Brandon M. Feikles of the Diocese of Erie is the son of Patrick and Mary Feikles of Erie. He is a 2013 graduate of Cathedral Preparatory School, Erie, and earned a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from Gannon University, Erie in 2017. He has also studied theology at Saint Mary’s Seminary and University.

Christopher Wheeler of Escanaba, Michigan is the son of Victor and Sandra Jean Wheeler of Girard. He is a 1997 graduate of Northwestern High School, Albion. He earned a bachelor of science degree in secondary education and history from Edinboro University in 2001.

DIOCESE OF PITTSBURGH

Daniel D’Antonio of West Mifflin is the son of Jacquelyn D’Antonio of West Mifflin and the late David D’Antonio. He graduated from West Mifflin Area High School in 1996. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in business from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in 2000 and studied philosophy at Duquesne University.

Thomas G. Kadlick is the son of Caroleann Kadlick of Gibsonia. He is a 2013 graduate of Deer Lakes High School, Russellton. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from Duquesne University in 2018 and has also studied secondary education and special education at Point Park University.

Marvin E. Knieriem of Irwin is the son of Cindy Wielock of Tarrs and the late Marvin Knieriem. He is a 1999 graduate of Connellsville Area High School and earned a bachelor of arts degree from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh in 2018.

SAINT VINCENT ARCHABBEY

Brother Francis Jin is from Shanghai Province, China. He earned a bachelor of electrical engineering degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2009. He began studies at Saint Vincent Seminary in 2016, and in 2018, he received the master of arts degree in Catholic philosophical studies.

Brother Barnabas (Michael) O’Reilly is the son of Lawrence and Eileen O’Reilly of Johnstown. He is a 2008 graduate of Bishop McCort High School. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in biology and theology in 2012 from Saint Vincent College. He began studies at Saint Vincent Seminary in 2016. In 2018, he received the master of arts degree in Catholic philosophical studies, cum laude.
