Monk From Brazil To Be Ordained August 18

Brother Martinho Zevallos Chávez, O.S.B., will be ordained to the priesthood on August 18 by Most Rev. Dom Airton José dos Santos, Archbishop of Campinas, at Mosteirio de São Benton, Vinhedo, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

At the May 11 commencement of Saint Vincent Seminary, Brother Martinho received the master of divinity degree, magna cum laude, as well as the Hon. Judge Bernard F. Scherer Award given to the student who most exemplifies the qualities evident in the life of Judge Scherer, including breadth of learning, the integration of knowledge, faith and life, service to others through corporal works of mercy, and a strong witness of faith, hope and charity. He is the son of Luis Ariel Zevallos Perez and Teresa Sara Chávez de Zevallos of Arequipa, Peru. He graduated from Coronel Gregorio Albarracin, Tacna, Peru, in 1989 and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of San Agustin, Arequipa, Peru, in 1995. He also has a doctorate in physics from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, 2003. He was ordained to the diaconate on July 15, 2017, in Brazil.
