Ordinations 2008: Transition Deacons, May 24, Luis Fonseca

By Luis Fonseca
My story and how it is related to the Diocese of Savannah begins around December of 2001 in Bogota, Colombia with one very special name: Father Larry Lucree. From that day on my life was changed in a marvelous way in which the only constant elements have been the many blessings I have received.
I cannot deny that there have been moments of doubt and even confusion, also moments in which I’ve been ready to quit and just get back to what my life used to be, back to what I used to consider “home.” But thanks to the prayers and support of so many people throughout the Southern part of Georgia I’ve been able to find a new home in which I feel I belong and where I want to spend the rest of my life trying to serve in the Ways of Our Lord.
I have learned many things in the fives year since I joined the Diocese, and the more I meet new people, the happier I feel to be where I am and to be doing what I am doing. I have had wonderful experiences in the summer I’ve had the opportunity to share in different parishes, and I have seen wonderful examples of pastoral ministry with the Pastors I have shared. I know I still have lots of responsibilities in my remaining year at the seminary and a very cold and dark (and hopefully last) winter ahead of me, but I am starting to see the light in the end, and it’s wonderful. My heart is filled with joy and my thoughts with gratitude, for it has been the prayers of so many people that have kept me and supported me during those dark and cold days of winter.
May Our Lord continue to bless us all. Thanks!
