The annual Pope Benedict XVI Lecture will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 23 in the Robert S. Carey Student Center at Saint Vincent.
The featured speaker will be the Rev. Pablo T. Gadenz, a priest of the Diocese of Trenton, New Jersey, and an assistant professor of Biblical Studies at Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology at Seton Hall University. He is also on the formation faculty of the seminary. His lecture, Preaching the Gospel: Pope Benedict on Scripture and Evangelization, will follow the trajectory in Pope Benedict’s thinking from the last Synod of Bishops on the Word of God (and the Pope’s document after the Synod: Verbum Domini) to the upcoming Synod later this year on the New Evangelization, emphasizing the role of Scripture in preaching.
He received his licentiate in Scripture (S.S.L.) from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in 2005 and his doctorate in biblical theology (S.T.D.) from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 2008. He holds both an M.Div. and an M.A. from Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, as well as a master of science degree in engineering from Columbia University and a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Princeton.
Father Gadenz is one of 12 authors who collaborated on Catholic for a Reason, which was edited by Dr. Scott Hahn and Leon J. Suprenant. The book’s foreword is by Archbishop Charles J. Chaput.
Father Gadenz’s published dissertation is entitled Called from the Jews and from the Gentiles. Pauline Ecclesiology in Romans 9–11. Father Gadenz is a member of the Catholic Biblical Association of America and the Society of Biblical Literature.
His research focuses on rhetorical analysis and use of Scripture in Paul’s Letters.
Father Gadenz teaches various New Testament courses at Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology. His research focuses on rhetorical analysis of Paul’s Letters and the study of Paul’s use of Scripture. He is also interested in the theological interpretation of Scripture, building bridges between exegetical study and the Church’s theology and liturgy. Ordained in 1996, Father Gadenz assists on weekends at Christ the King Parish in Long Branch, New Jersey.
