Seminary Welcomes 13 New Students

Saint Vincent Seminary welcomed 13 new seminarians for the new school year, from North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Alabama and Pennsylvania.

BELMONT ABBEY, NORTH CAROLINA

Brother James (Robert) Raber, O.S.B., of Belmont Abbey, North Carolina, is the son of Edward B. and Sue M. Raber of Fleming Island, Florida. He is a 2002 graduate of Gahanna Lincoln High School, Gahanna, Ohio. He earned a bachelor of science degree in marine transportation operations from Maine Maritime Academy, Castine, Maine in 2006. He has done post graduate studies at Belmont Abbey College. He has also studied at Saint Meinard Seminary and School of Theology, Indiana.

DIOCESE OF ERIE

Michael C. Scanga of the Diocese of Erie is the son of James V. and Kimberly A. Scanga of Sharpsville. He is a 2015 graduate of Kennedy Catholic High School, Hermitage. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology in 2019 and a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from Gannon University, Erie, in 2021.

DIOCESE OF GREENSBURG

Mario J. Porreca is the son of Joseph and Denise Porreca of West Newton. He is a 2003 graduate of Belle Vernon Area High School. He studied culinary arts at Westmoreland County Community College, and has also studied philosophy and theology at Holy Apostles College and Seminary, Cromwell, Connecticut, and philosophy at Franciscan University of Steubenville.

DIOCESE OF CHARLESTON

Justin D. Damask of the Diocese of Charleston is the son of Paula Damask of Hatley, Wisconsin and the late Michael Damask. He is a 2015 graduate of Newman Catholic High School, Wausau, Wisconsin. He studied philosophy at the University of Dallas, Irving, Texas, in 2018. He also studied mechanical engineering at the University of South Carolina. In 2020 he earned a Ph.B. (bachelor of arts) degree in philosophy from the Catholic University of America, where he studied philosophy and Classical civilizations. In 2021 he received the Ph.L. degree from CUA in philosophy.

Daniel L. Perry of the Diocese of Charleston is the son of Daniel and Beth Perry of Boiling Springs, South Carolina. He is a 2014 graduate of Landrum High School, Campobello, South Carolina. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in information management systems from the University of South Carolina in 2018. He earned a master of arts degree in philosophical studies for missiology discipleship from Saint Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in 2021.

Erik Roman of the Diocese of Charleston is the son of Jesus Roman and Martha Erika Roman of Rock Hill, South Carolina. He graduated from Rock Hill High School in 2016. He earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and letters from the University of Dallas, Irving, Texas in 2020. He has studied at Saint Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary.

DIOCESE OF PITTSBURGH

Brian M. Myler is the son of John J. and Bonnie L. Myler of Pittsburgh. He is a 2004 graduate of Penn Hills High School. He studied civil engineering at Pennsylvania State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 2008. He earned a master of business administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2013.

Erik L. Pintar is the son of Frank A. and Angie M. Pintar of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He is a 2011 graduate of Wauwatosa East High School. He earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical and computer engineering and human computer interaction from Carnegie Mellon University in 2016.

DIOCESE OF YOUNGSTOWN

Robert J. England III is the son of Robert J. England Jr. of Poland, Ohio and Sandra T. England of Wartburg, Tennessee. He is a 1989 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and earned a bachelor of arts degree in 2018 from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee. He also studied at Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology. He is studying for the Diocese of Youngstown.

SAINT BERNARD ABBEY, ALABAMA

Brother Romanus Davitt, O.S.B., is a monk of Saint Bernard Abbey, Cullman, Alabama. His parents are the late Lawrence Davitt and the late Pamela Jean Clements-Chaney. He attended Pleasant Valley High School in Jacksonville, Alabama, completing his studies in 1994. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in 2021 from Wallace State Community College/Belmont Abbey College in philosophy.

SAINT VINCENT ARCHABBEY

Brother Bosco (Douglas John) Hough, O.S.B., is the son of Brian and Nicole Hough of Steubenville. A 2014 graduate of West Shamokin Junior/Senior High School, he studied early childhood and special education at Saint Vincent College, graduating in 2018 with a bachelor of science degree. He earned a master of science degree in special education from Saint Vincent in 2020.

Brother José (Alex James) Rosa, O.S.B. is the son of Alex Rosa Jr. and Margaret Rosa of Odenton, Maryland. He graduated from Mount Saint Joseph High School in 2016, and earned a bachelor of arts degree, magna cum laude, from Saint Vincent College in 2020, majoring in philosophy and politics.

Brother Anselm (Xinran) Zhang, O.S.B., is the son of Yibo Zhang of Xingtai, Xiangdu District, China, and the late Chaoying Han. He is a 1993 graduate of Xingtai Huining High School. He studied marriage and family in 2013 at the International Theological Institute, Austria, and English and international communication in 2003 at Yantai Norman University, China. He earned an A.A. degree in international business from the School of Business, Peking University, China, in 1996 and an A.A. degree in applied English from North China Electric Power University in 1995. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and theology from Saint Vincent College in 2021. He began studies at Saint Vincent Seminary in the spring of 2021.
