Thirteen Installed to Ministry of Reader

Thirteen seminarians from Saint Vincent Seminary, representing one archdiocese, six dioceses, and one abbey, were installed to the ministry of reader on February 22, 2010 by the Most Reverend William J. Winter, S.T.D., retired auxiliary bishop of Pittsburgh, in the Saint Vincent Basilica. Seminarians are from the Archdiocese of Atlanta, the Dioceses of Covington, Erie, Harrisburg, Saginaw, Savannah and Wheeling-Charleston; and from Saint Vincent Archabbey.

ARCHDIOCESE OF ATLANTA

Luis E. Alvarez of Atlanta, Georgia, is the son of Luis Alnedo Alverez and Carmen Maria Velazquez of Caguas, Puerto Rico. He is a 2001 graduate of Croem High School in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He also studied electrical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

DIOCESE OF COVINGTON

Josiah N. Booth is the son of Ray Booth and Vanna Mae Critoria of Navarre, Ohio.
He is a 2003 graduate of Central Catholic High School, Canton, earned a bachelor of arts degree in history from the Pontifical College Josephinum and Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2009.

Michael B. Norton of Villa Hills, Kentucky, is the son of Michael E. and Kathy S. Norton of Madisonville. He is a 2001 graduate of Ryle High School, Union. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from Thomas More College, Crestview Hills, Kentucky, in 2009.

Ryan Lee Stenger of Union, Kentucky, is the son of Nick L. Stenger of Burlington, Kentucky, and Joanne L. Kenner of Union. He is a 2006 graduate of Covington Latin School in Kentucky. He has studied philosophy and theology at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio.

Jacob E. Straub is the son of Clifford and Terri Straub of Alexandria, Kentucky. He is a 2001 graduate of Campbell County High School. He studied history at Georgetown College, Georgetown, Kentucky; history and philosophy at Northern Kentucky University; and earned a bachelor of arts degree in history from the Pontifical College Josephinum in 2009.

DIOCESE OF ERIE

David M. Renne of Punxsutawney is the son of Peter and Jennifer Renne of Punxsutawney. He is a 2005 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School and earned a bachelor of arts degree in English/philosophy from Gannon University, Erie, in 2009.

DIOCESE OF HARRISBURG

Stephen P. Kelley of York is the son of Philip and Brenda Kelley of Lebanon. He is a 1991 graduate of Cedar Crest High School, Lebanon, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 1996.

DIOCESE OF SAGINAW

Alberto E. Vargas of Saginaw is the son of Ivan and Maria Disne Vargas of Ituango, Colombia. He is a 2005 graduate of the Seminario Cristo Sacerdote with a major in philosophy. He has also studied at Santo Tomas de Aquino Seminary, Santa Rosa de Osos, Colombia.

DIOCESE OF SAVANNAH

Vernon William Knight of Warner Robins, Georgia, is the son of Rebecca and Vernon Knight, Sr., of Warner Robins. He is a 2002 graduate of Warner Robins High School. In 2004, he received an associate degree in education from Macon State College, Macon, Georgia.

DIOCESE OF WHEELING-CHARLESTON

Ryan Lee Stichweh of Morgantown, West Virginia, is the son of Dorothy and James Stichweh of Peachtree City, Georgia. He is a 1990 graduate of Princeton Community High School in Princeton, Indiana. He earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering technology from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, in 1996. He also earned a master’s certificate in project management from George Washington University.

SAO BENTO ABBEY

Brother Cassiano M. De Souza of Brazil is from São Bento Abbey, São Paulo, Brazil. He studied theology at Centro Universitário Salesiano de São Paulo, philosophy at Faculdade São Bento and is a 1995 graduate of EEPSG Prof a Zenaide Vilalva de Araujo, São Paulo.

SAINT VINCENT ARCHABBEY

Brother Jeremiah Lange, O.S.B., of Pittsburgh is the son of George L. Lange of Murrysville and the late Margaret Meixelsberger. He is a 1974 graduate of Plum Senior High School. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in history from Slippery Rock University in 1996, a master of arts/Ed.S. degree in counseling from the University of South Carolina in 2001, and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Florida in 2005.

Brother Maximilian Maxwell, O.S.B., of Philadelphia is the son of the late Robert Luke and Susan Maxwell. He is a 1992 graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic High School. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in communication and religious studies from Saint Vincent College in 2007.
