Statement of Archabbot Douglas R. Nowicki, O.S.B., on the appointment of Very Reverend Edward C. Malesic, as Bishop-Elect of the Diocese of Greensburg

“The Benedictine Community at Saint Vincent joins Bishop Brandt and the clergy, religious and lay persons of the Diocese in welcoming Bishop-elect Edward Malesic as the fifth Bishop of the Diocese of Greensburg,” said Archabbot Douglas R. Nowicki, O.S.B., of Saint Vincent Archabbey. The Archabbot noted that “Bishop-elect Malesic brings a wealth of pastoral experience and administrative wisdom from his years of service in the Diocese of Harrisburg.”

The Archabbot also indicated that “the Benedictine community looks forward to working with Bishop-elect Malesic in all of the pastoral, educational and missionary apostolates of Saint Vincent Archabbey.”

Brother Norman Hipps, O.S.B., President of Saint Vincent College, lauded his previous experience in campus ministry at several universities, which will serve him well in his ongoing collaboration with Saint Vincent College and the other private and public universities in the Diocese of Greensburg.

Very Rev. Timothy F. Whalen, Rector of Saint Vincent Seminary, also commended his extensive experience in priestly ministry in the Diocese of Harrisburg, which will also benefit the diocesan and religious seminarians of Saint Vincent Seminary as they continue their preparation for the priesthood.

In his welcome, Archabbot Douglas said, “we proudly extend to Bishop-elect Malesic our heartiest congratulations, best wishes and promise of prayerful support as he begins his ministry as the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese of Greensburg. May God bless his leadership and ministry with the clergy, religious and lay persons of the Diocese of Greensburg.”
