Three new members have joined the adjunct faculty of Saint Vincent Seminary.
REV. DR. CHRISTIAAN W. KAPPES
Father Kappes presently serves as academic dean and professor of liturgy and patristics at SS. Cyril and Methodius Byzantine Catholic Seminary, Pittsburgh. He earned a doctorate in sacred liturgy from the Pontifical Athenaeum of Sant’ Anselmo, Rome; a licentiate of philosophy from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Rome. He received a bachelor’s degree in sacred theology from Saint Thomas Aquinas, Rome, and a bachelor’s degree in classical studies from Seton Hall University, New Jersey.
Father Kappes was an adjunct professor of theology and philosophy at Universidad de Los Hemisferios, Quito, Ecuador. He was ordained a Roman Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis in 2002. Additional diplomas are from Kapodistrian University of Athens, Modern Greek; University of Texas, Greek philology; and the Dante Alighieri Institute in cooperation with the University of La Sapienza, Rome. His languages include Italian, Spanish, Modern Greek, French, German, Classical and ecclesiastical Latin; Homeric, ancient and Koinê and early Byzantine Greek, Syriac as well as Biblical Hebrew.
He is the author of The Epiclesis Debate: Mark of Ephesus and John Torquemada, O.P., at the Council Florence 1439, Notre Dame University Press, 2016; and The Immaculate Conception: Why Thomas Aquinas Denied, while John Duns Scotus, Gregory Palamas, and Mark Eugenicus Professed the Absolute Immaculate Existence of Mary, Academy of the Immaculate, Minnesota, 2014.
REV. MICHAEL P. CONWAY
Father Conway is serving as senior parochial vicar of Saint Hilary and Immaculate Conception Parishes in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, as well as chaplain at California University of Pennsylvania and Washington and Jefferson College and Waynesburg University. He has a licentiate in sacred theology and dogmatic theology from The Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Rome; a baccalaureate of sacred theology degree from The Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome; a master of arts in philosophy from Duquesne University and a bachelor of arts degree in history from Wheeling Jesuit University. He has taught a number of courses at Saint Paul Seminary in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
He is a member of the executive board of the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania, and serves on the Clergy Personnel Board for the diocese. His previous service includes administrator of Saint Richard Parish; parochial vicar of Immaculate Conception Parish and parochial vicar, pro tem at Saint Richard. Prior to his service in the diocese he was a corporate trust associate for The Bank of New York Mellon, Pittsburgh; and a senior auditor for National City Mortgage Company, Pittsburgh.
REV. KENNETH W. MARLOVITS
Father Marlovits is presently administrator of Saint Maurice Parish in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, and has been a priest for the diocese since 2014. He has baccalaureate of sacred theology and master of divinity degrees from The Catholic University of America; a master of philosophy degree from Duquesne University; a master of education in administrative and policy studies from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor of science degree in secondary education from Pennsylvania State University.
He has taught several courses for the Department of Religious Education for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, serves on the Presbyteral Council and the diocesan Vocations Planning Committee. He is a former assistant high school principal in the Blackhawk School District, Beaver Falls, where he also taught social studies and coached three sports.
Other parish ministry has included Saint Bernard Parish, parochial vicar, for two years; chaplain at Seton LaSalle Catholic High School, and deacon and seminary assignments at Our Lady of Mercy, Potomac, Maryland and Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Parish.
